And if recent !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that was released regarding its Japanese half brother are correct, that would make it $290 cheaper than the Supra. For essentially the same car underneath. But anyway, here’s the pricing breakdown
There’s only one trim level: sDrive30i powered by the 2.0 TwinPower I4 and proper rwd. No power hardtop this time around either. Just a simple power convertible top. There are 2 design trims to choose from, Sport and M Sport with a $2,950 difference between the 2. The M Sport design is $52,650. I choose it.
There are 8 exterior color choices: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver, Mineral White, Mediterranean Blue, Misano Blue (or M Blue), a nice color called San Francisco Red, and a Frozen Grey; and 2 top colors (Black and Moonlight Black. Whatever that is) to choose from. I choose the Misano Blue with Black top. Glacier Silver, Mineral White, and Mediterranean Blue cant be chosen with the M Sport Package.
6 exterior wheel designs round out the options wheel wise for the exterior. They are split between 3 18” designs and 3 19” designs, with one from each not being able to be chosen with my selection of the M Sport design. All are on run flats of course. I choose Black wheels of course for $600.
There are 6 interior leather color choices…..well 5 really. Can you believe the nerve of BMW to charge this much, and have the standard seat covering be their bullshit faux leather SensaTec? That’s insane to me. Other than that, every other optional leather requires the weird addition of ambient interior lighting. There’s Black with Alcantara inserts and M color stitching; Ivory White; Black; Magma Red; and Cognac. With the exception of the Black with Alcantara inserts which adds $1500, all the others add on $1700. I chose the Black with Alcantara.
3 interior trim choices round out the selections for the interior: High Gloss Black, Aluminum Tetragon and Aluminum “Mesheffect”. All are no costs options.
There are 5 option packages for the Z4 that can make it either a true sports car, or a GT:
Convenience Package $1,450 with parking assistant, lumbar support, sat radio, active driving assistant and comfort access keyless entry.
Driving Assistance Package $500 which is just a standard suite of drivers aids.
Premium Package $1,600 with heated seats, wireless charging, wifi hotspot and a HUD display.
Executive Package $2,500 that requires the selection of one of the different interior leather colors, auto highbeams, ambient interior lighting, adaptive full led headlights, and a Harmon Kardon sound system.
Track Handling Package $2,450 with the only things it consists of are a M Sport diff and M Sport brakes
I was only able to select the Driving Assistance, Premium and Track Handling packages. Stupidly, the Track Handling package requires the removal of the M Sport suspension that automatically comes with the M Sport design. The Executive pack cant be selected without removing the Leather/Alcantara seats, and the Convenience pack requires the removal of the M Sport design. Weird.
There are only 4 stand alone options for the Z4:
Remote start for $300 which I’m surprised they still charge extra for
Heated steering wheel for $190
Extended shadowline trim for $300
Adaptive Cruise Control for $1,200
I choose all of these except the heated wheel.
All in, a loaded Z4 M Sport is just under $62 grand. $61,850 to be exact. Whats weird is that you can come out $1200 more with the base Sport trim for some weird reason. With most of the same options selected, I priced it out to $63,050.
But there you have it. If you have $65 grand burning a hole in your pocket, and you hate the design of the Supra along with the fact it doesn’t come with a convertible, then the Z4 may be for you.

So, the $50k base price either gets me a Supra with a TT I 6 or a BMW with a turbo four? That’s an easy call.

Just sucks that you have to deal with BMW repair costs on both.

That’ll be really interesting, I think. Toyota owners are generally used to reasonable repair costs for both labor and parts. BMW, obviously, the opposite... so, I wonder if Toyota will somehow subsidize this to be more in line with their customer expectations. If so, could you take your Z4 to the local Toyota dealer for service and repair?

I’m wondering all this as well since the Supra is basically this underneath. I doubt it though. No matter the dealership, service centers always usually shaft people.
